They Say...
What sets the self-titled debut from DayintheLife apart from their fellow hardcore/metal peers is their desire to spike their songs with other musical forms. "Rise" contains a Middle Eastern guitar motif, while "See You on the Way" has a spacy, atmospheric Smashing Pumpkins aura about it (with all of the tracks containing dense riffing à la Quicksand). The group has a pair of strong lead vocalists: George Reynolds, who sounds like a higher-pitched Henry Rollins, and Josh DeMarco, who sings more conventionally and melodically. Lyrically, the band escapes from the hardcore-cliché ghetto with often positive lyrics that deal with attaining goals, corporate America, et al. For those who want their alt-metal with some depth and originality, DayintheLife is a good bet.
