  • They Say...

Despite the fact that the Vibrators have earned little respect over the years, it's undeniable that they produced some of punk's catchiest songs, as evident here by such early material as "We Vibrate," "Dance to the Music" (later retitled "Whips & Furs" for the band's initial 45), and "She's Bringing You Down" (hindered by a deteriorating master tape, an annoyance that also plagues "I Can See It in Your Eyes"). Still, it is unfortunate to note that the majority of these 1976 recordings lack the infectious energy that helped make Pure Mania such an exciting debut. The liveliness was restored for the 1977 sessions, but by this time the songwriting began to suffer (though "He's a Psycho" and "24 Hour People" are worthy tunes). The two previously unreleased bonus tracks ("Drive" and "Still Not Over You") date from 1990 and 1985, respectively. Demos and Rarities provides some historical significance, as the Vibrators were one of the first punk bands to record (in March 1976), preceding the Sex Pistols by a little over a month.
