  • They Say...

Dennis Brown worked with virtually every possible producer on the Jamaican scene during his career, but arguably none of them yielded better or more consistent results than Winston Niney Holness. Brown and Niney worked together on and off for roughly five years at the start of the 1970s, and their successes were many, including "Money in My Pocket," "Wolves and Leopards," and the evocative "Africa," all three of which are collected on the first disc of this two-disc set from Burning Bush Records. All of Brown's biggest hits with Niney are compiled here, in fact, while disc two preserves a surprisingly funky 1979 live set from Montreux in which Brown is in fine form. Taken together, these two discs form a remarkably cohesive portrait of Dennis Brown's 1970s peak.
