A remix EP that contains one of microhouse’s greatest pop moments.

Before their collaboration as the Postal Service, Jimmy Tamborello (aka Dntel) tapped Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard to sing on the clattering “(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan” for 2002’s Life Is Full of Possibilities. But the real bomb — and the first serious step in the Postal Service’s indie-clubland crossover success — came with the song’s remix EP. Alongside reworkings from indie-dance heavyweights like Safety Scissors, Barbara Morgenstern and Lali Puna, the unquestioned standout is from Aksel Schaufler, the German DJ better known as Superpitcher who embeds Gibbard’s vocal in a red-hued haze of foghorn strings, loping bass and, between verses, bells that rustle like chains. Along with Matthew Dear’s “Dog Days,” this stands as microhouse’s greatest pop moment — and one of the half-dozen best remixes of the decade.
