  • We Say...

Conjurers of badass metal a la Judas Priest and Black Sabbath, Ohio duo Early Man play loud and louder, their crackly riffs mirrored by floor-tom pounds and almost-falsetto vocals. If you're wondering why indie-rock powerhouse Matador is releasing a record like Closing In, you've got us (stoner-rockers Dead Meadow provide some precedent), but we ain't complaining. "Four Walls" boasts an absolutely sick arpeggiated chorus; "Death Is the Answer" is sludgy and epic (and sounds exactly like Sabbath); and "Evil Is" snarls like early-'90s Metallica (minus the weird, tinny mid-range production values). You metalheads are in serious luck!
