They Say...
From the cover, listeners expecting bleeding-skull psychedelia could be forgiven. But no, Eats Tapes' cleverly titled Dos Mutantes is bubble-and-squirt electronics, as playful as Mouse on Mars used to do, with driving techno for a background. (And if techno fans had any doubts, the mastering credit for Joshua Kit Clayton is very reassuring.) And, like Mouse on Mars, Eats Tapes knows how to leaven their impeccably clean productions with distortion and found sounds; if there was a little more experimentation or a little more melodic sense, it would be a real knockout. For highlights, go to "Lemon Drop" or the opener "No Part Name."
