Hear the beginnings of one of techno’s most accessible and celebrated artists.

  • We Say...

Ellen Allien has come so far since her 2001 debut album, Stadtkind that it's mostly a curiosity at this point — compared to the big, acidic burners from Thrills, a track like "Tief in Mir" seems merely to tread in place, while the microsound-obsessed "Shorty" sounds clunky next to similar strategies from Akufen or Herbert. Still, committed fans of the label will appreciate the lavish timbral spread of tunes like "Funkenflug der Träume" and "Wolken Ziehen."
