  • They Say...

Jon Tye's Lo Recordings makes its return to the sound library crates, again employing Planet Mm, Mo Wax, Virgin, and Ninja Tune veteran Vibert to plunder the wealth of Nuggets, originally created by a faceless band of session musicians and intended for use in everything from internal training films to home movie accompaniment. This 26-track volume is again rich in hard-to-find, two-minute obscurities, the usual filmic wah-wah funk craziness peppered with unexpectedly gentle gems -- most notably courtesy of Roger Web and Paul Bonneau, whose "Exotica" and "Extace" are both delightful exercises in cinematic majesty. As with his first outing, Vibert finds plenty of quirk amongst the rifled recordings -- the theramin-fuelled Whistler is unforgettable, while it's incredulous to learn that the luscious vibes of Paul Kass' "Underground Agent" was almost lost to history entirely. Rediscover these.
