  • They Say...

A solid but unspectacular effort, this CD matches singer Ernestine Anderson with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. The big band is mostly heard in the background (except on the instrumental "Le Blues"), with the spotlight otherwise totally on the vocalist. Anderson sounds fine, but the material (which ranges from Al Jarreau's "Boogie Down" to "Love Walked In" and "One Mint Julep") offers few surprises, and she is not really smoothly integrated into the big band. However, the music still has its enjoyable moments.
