  • We Say...

Beats take a backseat on the third album by this South African producer. It's a record foremost about the delicate interplay of electronic and acoustic elements, particularly in its creative use of nylon-string guitar. "Whistling in Tongues" has a subtle bossa nova rhythm that, combined with the guitar, flute, and xylophone, suggests a deeply cool folk music of uncertain origin. "Falling Off a Horse" rapidly loops two fingerpicked chords and sets them against watery sound effects and an ethereal keyboard line, coloring its whimsy with a stroke of darkness.
