  • We Say...

Ninja Tunes signed Finian Greenhall as a trip-hop artist in the mid-90s, doubtlessly expecting the Bristol, U.K. native to plunk around on a keyboard, sample some jazz tracks and otherwise pander to England’s growing crowd of electronic fusion fans. He obliged--for a few years. Then Greenhall traded his turntables for an acoustic guitar and began writing the sort of jazzy, finger-picked folk songs that would make Jose Gonzalez proud. Greenhall, popularly known as Fink, only furthers his budding singer-songwriter legacy on “Sort of Revolution,” a smoldering, shimmering album that slinks between R&B vocal harmonies and bare, guitar-driven instrumentation. Fink waxes folksy on songs like the title track; on others, like the mid-album "Q&A," he wallows in his jazz roots, crooning a rich, harmonic chorus as a bass hums in the background.
