An ideal overview of one of the world’s greatest guitar players.

  • We Say...

Whether or not it’s really the "best of" is irrelevant. There’s enough wonderful music on the collection to satisfy, with plenty of examples of Franco’s prodigious guitar work. They’re most evident in the sebenes, the instrumental sections where Franco shines over the other two guitars in the ensemble. Taken from his entire career, it illustrates his growth, from the raw early “La Rumba OK” to the full, extended workout of “Très Impoli." It’s fascinating, too, to hear singers Sam Mangwana and Vicky Longomba on some tracks, as well as noted guitarist Simaro Lutumba. It’s supremely relaxed music, with OK Jazz offering a soulful backdrop to the singers and, of course, Franco’s guitar, which steals the show every time. Fluent, inventive and instantly recognizable from his high tone, he’s a magician with flying fingers and overflowing talent, one of the world’s greatest guitar players. It’s an ideal overview of his superb music.
