Though it's credited to the Country Teasers, Full Moon Empty Sports Bag primarily consists of frontman B.R. Wallers' home recordings (many under his cassette-only moniker, the Rebel), with only a handful being bona fide full-band takes. (Though considering the band's revolving door, the point is moot.) The doubled guitar riffs, mumbled vocals, racy (and some might say racist) lyrics and tumultuous tempos all return full as ticks. And there's a shocking new addition: good drumming! Still, the bedroom tracks work best, especially the lilting "Young Mums Up for Sex," the theremin-aided instrumental title cut and the appropriately cheerful "Man V Cock." Full Moon (alternate title: Secret Weapon Revealed at Last) includes the Teasers' two best post-"Drove a Truck" ballads: "Deaths" and "Life Is a Rehearsal." "Deaths" finds Wallers sincerely tender, softly consoling those plagued by death ("Those people who just died/You miss them pretty bad/Rub a little salt in any wounds that you might have/And have a cry for yourself/You'll feel better when you've had/Or cut an onion!") while a melodica wheezes a sorrowful hook. On "Life Is a Rehearsal," Wallers and melodica duet again, and with his mouth clenched he utters his purest lyric yet: "Used to be a sweet boy/Holding very tight to daddy's hand/But that was in/A distant land." With that, the prodigious son turns prodigal.
