They Say...
A fine all-around single CD, it sums up Benny Goodman's 1935-1939 period on Victor. During this time BG became jazz's and popular music's number one attraction, achieving this impressive feat without watering down his music or emphasizing novelties. All Goodman did was play the music he loved and the audience magically responded and started dancing. This set has most of BG's better-known recordings from the era, including "King Porter Stomp," "Goody Goody," "Roll 'Em," "Don't Be That Way," "One O'Clock Jump," and, of course, the memorable "Sing, Sing, Sing"; it serves as a good beginning for those listeners just beginning to explore Benny Goodman's music.
