We Say...
Most of the seven members of Paris-based Gotan Project are Argentine, which makes sense: "Gotan" is an anagram of "tango," but the group's music moves that style out into terrain that's broader than tango's base audience. It's an intriguing mix, and an apt one — both the thick, bottom-heavy downtempo grooves and the deliberately paced melodicism of tango rely on moody understatement for their power. On this disc of reworkings from 2001's La Revancha Del Tango (translation, aptly enough: "The Revenge of Tango"), Pepe Bradcock, Kruder and Dorfmeister (alone and separately), and Antipop Consortium help twist the style even more.
