  • We Say...

You'd be hard pressed to find a band more connected to their world (politically engaged, pop culture savvy, reverence for the past) and less connected to the musical zeitgeist (a rap/rock hybrid in 2007?) than Hed p.e. Credit p.e., then, for sticking with nu-metal far past its sell-by date: Insomnia is their finest release in many years. Reportedly, the album is based around the loose concept of taking the listener on a journey of self-discovery about the state of the world. While that may sound like every Hed p.e. record, it pays huge dividends whether they're talking about globalization in "Tienanman Squared," bemoaning a lack of intellectual curiosity in "Walk On By" or connecting the dots between past and present on their cover of Buffalo's Sprinfield's "For What It's Worth" ("Children").
