  • They Say...

For a band like Horace Pinker who has been paying their dues for eight years prior to this EP, it must annoy them that they're getting a lot more attention with the accompanied press of "featuring ex-Jawbreaker bassist Chris Bauermeister." The truth is that Horace Pinker is a mature pop-punk band whose lyrical honesty resulted in the placement of being "emo influenced." Even though the "e-word" is more of an insult than a label, it's not as insulting as being viewed as a band that now has Bauermeister from Jawbreaker; as if everything else that Horace Pinker has done doesn't matter anymore. Copper Regret doesn't break any new ground for Horace Pinker; the aforementioned emo-soaked pop of hard-hitting melodies have been heard on their previous albums. At the same time, the likes of Samiam, Jawbreaker, and Face to Face -- when they were good -- have already covered and mastered this formula. However, Copper Regret manages to stray away from the generic humdrum of this genre by producing an established composite of tight pop-punk that doesn't fade into a monotony cycle. A great EP that should be recognized for the music rather than who's in than band.
