The Brooklyn-based I Am the World Trade Center is essentially Daniel Geller, co-founder of the indie pop Kindercore label and onetime member of the now-defunct band Kincaid. Geller, who has also remixed tracks by Olivia Tremor Control and Ladybug Transistor, recorded, sequenced, and mixed the entire album on his laptop, with Amy Dykes providing Mascott-ish vocals to the pulsating bounces and beats. The result is the lo-fi electro debut Out of the Loop, a 14-track pop pastiche full of lopsided beats and reverie influenced by acts such as St. Etienne, New Order, and most notably the Detroit-based new wavers in Godzuki, among others. I Am the World Trade Center's first long-player is a smashing success that avoids sounding too retro, as Geller's beats sound readymade for roller discos and bedrooms alike. Dance and dream your life away to highlights like "Holland Tunnel," "September," and "Sounds So Crazy."
