Living up to its title, this collection presents some of the classics of swing, including works from Louis Bellson, Kelly Smith, and Maynard Ferguson. The orchestras are smooth and flawless, the tempo is upbeat, and the sound evokes the ballrooms of 50 years ago. There is some filler in the mix, but overall this is a fine place to start in the exploration of mid-century jazz music.
