  • They Say...

Violinist Joe Kennedy recorded surprisingly little through the years. In fact, this 1962 LP has his only project as a leader between 1946-1980. A mostly easy listening set, Kennedy's violin is joined by a dozen violins, two violas, two cellos, and a four-piece rhythm section. Kennedy is mostly in the spotlight, and the emphasis is on ballads, including "There's a Lull in My Life," "Day Dreaming," and "Sophisticated Gentleman." However, for variety, some of the songs are taken at faster tempos, and there are a few spots along the way for guitarist Kenny Burrell and pianist Hank Jones to take short solos. This is a nice album, long overdue to be reissued on CD.
