  • We Say...

Some of Taylor's finest and most heartfelt singing came on this blend of testifying blues and song sermons. Other than disposable cover of "This Bitter Earth," Taylor sung with fervor and power on "We're Getting Careless With Our Love," "Cheaper To Keep Her" and "I Believe In You (You Believe In Me)." "Standing In For Jody" and "Love In The Streets (Ain't Good As The Love At Home)" show the link between downhome soul and plain talkin' country.

  • They Say...

Perhaps Taylor's best pure soul release, this contains the shattering "We're Getting Careless With Our Love" and the equally bittersweet/humorous "Cheaper To Keep Her." Taylor was in peak form as a vocalist, and was getting superb productions, arrangements, compositions, and musical backing from the Stax braintrust.
