We Say...
"Woe implores: Go! But all joy wants eternity. Wants deep, wants deep eternity." Thus ends Zarathustra's Roundelay, the philosophic poem central to Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra." Along with composer Gustav Mahler (who used the text for his 3rd symphony), the band Joy Wants Eternity have used these words as their initial gesture of introduction to the world. Nietzschian references pepper this album, (see "Abide Moment"'s portrayal of Man's desperation in striving for isolated joy). As with all lyric-less post-rock, we derive our own meaning from the music using only the titles as a loose signpost. Joy Wants Eternity say they aim to "express their compositions into a sort of narrative psychology, a metamorphosis of both equal parts of subtle and explosive moments." It seems they see this heaving album as a soundtrack to a struggle between Man and God. It's a lofty ambition, but not out of the question.
