  • They Say...

The second collaboration between the improvisation guitarists, New York's master of avant-garde fragile blues and Tokyo's dark magus of feedback noise guitar recorded two albums together in one session. Their mutual admiration extends to almost inverting their predictable roles on this series of short live improvisations, Loren Mazzacane's signature delicate string bending mutates into black sheets of noise akin to Keiji Haino's usual distorted fare. While they circle around each other's abstract clusters for a little too long in some parts, the moments where free improvisation of this nature gels are elating and certainly step up a gear from the first volume that stumbled on the fringes of abstraction just a little too long. A rare collaboration and certainly a curious document for fans of avant-garde and improvised music, though certainly not an introduction to either artist who share more than a few common traits in prolific output and individuality, even if they are polar opposites of the guitar.
