  • They Say...

Kevon Edmonds' solo debut 24-7 proves that he can make it on his own, apart from After 7, even if it isn't a full-fledged knockout. Like his brother Babyface, Edmonds has an appealingly sophisticated spin on contemporary urban soul, never pushing the music too hard and keeping everything smooth and suave. This elegant approach carries him through stretches where the material isn't really distinguished, but fortunately, there aren't too many weak moments on the album. At times, the music can seem a little samey, but at its best -- the opening trilogy of "Never Love You," "Love Will Be Waiting," and "24/7," plus the Babyface duet "A Girl Like You" -- 24/7 showcases Edmonds as a sweetly ingratiating urban crooner.
