They Say...
The problem with Tigerbeat6 circa 2003 was that there was just too much to keep up with. In terms of prolific quantity, the year's onslaught of Tigerbeat6 releases had been unparalleled by any other electronic label, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Open Up and Say... is yet another sampler of previously released and forthcoming tunes from various releases throughout the year. The majority of the big names in the stable represent and show how far-reaching their individual styles are, yet simultaneously map out how solid the Tigerbeat aesthetic truly is. Leading off with the skittering workout from the Rip Off Artist, the comp dives into the dancehall stylings of the Bug with Daddy Freddy and is tempered by the presence of glam girl-punk Dynasty, which is followed by a surprisingly subdued remix from DJ/rupture. The diversity and sheer breadth goes on and on with contributions by Cex, Numbers, Stars as Eyes, and even an appearance by label head Kid 606 himself. Worth seeking out if you are new to the sound of Tigerbeat, or if you are a fan of every and all of the label's releases.
