Abetted by adults, they rock out "Since U Been Gone" and "Take Me Out."

  • We Say...

It's been a joy to watch the Kidz Bop Kidz grow up. Their eighth birthday is a swell one, indeed, but who let the grown-ups in? In a development that I'm not entirely sure about, many of these pop covers feature not-Kidz belting out verses like American idles, with our beloved youngsters only coming in to ecstatically shout the choruses. Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," U2's "Vertigo," Ciara's "1, 2 Step," Amerie's "1 Thing," Alicia Keys' "Karma" and Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" all exhibit this curious phenomenon, but fortunately the original songs are strong enough to succeed anyway. This album is funfunfun, no doubt, but here's our plea for Kidz Bop 9: let the children sing!
