They Say...
The Locust vocal album Morning Light includes nine gorgeous pop songs sprinkled with four short tracks of electronic atmosphere. Van Hoen is at his best here, creating pleasantly distorted, effervescent electro-pop productions for vocalists including Holli Ashton, Wendy Roberts, and Craig Bethell. Moving from folk-pop to orchestral electro to hi-NRG trance (occasionally in the same song), Van Hoen frames his singers with sympathetic productions. It's a wonder that his productions cover so much territory and still make for any kind of pop songs, much less supremely effective ones, but Morning Light works throughout. [This American issue of the album scrambled the track listing and added several bonus tracks.]
