Latin party band embraces their inner lounge lizard.

  • We Say...

Los Amigos Invisibles (the Invisible Friends) are the ultimate Latin party band, a blend of Ohio Players’ funk, P-Funk silliness, Les Baxter exotica, Chic-style disco and throw-in-the-kitchen-sink-and–see-what-happens slop that mixes killer grooves with fresh, if sometimes familiar-sounding melodies. Like all great party bands, from Louis Jordan’s Tympani Five and Kool and the Gang on to Prince & Co., they can stop on a peseta, never losing sight of the beat as they turn the groove every which way but loose. On Arepa 3000, they embrace their inner lounge band, but still sound like they’re having such a good time that it’s hard not to want to join in.

  • They Say...

Perhaps even better than their debut American release, Arepa 3000 proves that los Amigos Invisibles have an unlimited number of musical rabbits to pull out of their hats. This band from Venezuela manages to infuse all of their songs with a funky Latin flavor while tromping through swanky lounges, disco halls, and the occasional horse race. Named after a common Venezuelan food, this band serves up a tasty buffet of sound. It's no wonder they've found themselves on David Byrne's prestigious world label Luaka Bop, which seems to find the best music, regardless of ethnic markings, from around the world.
