  • They Say...

The music on this CD was originally part of two different LP's put out by the Fairmont label: the complete Live From The Dawn Club and Lu Watters' half of an album split with Louis Armstrong called Louie and Lu. Featuring Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band at the peak of its powers, these radio airchecks are well recorded for the period and contain many rousing ensembles by the octet (which star trumpeters Watters and Bob Scobey, trombonist Turk Murphy, clarinetist Bob Helm and pianist Wally Rose). Most of the songs were previously recorded by the group but these exciting renditions rank with the more familiar versions. Fortunately, the music on this release is also available along with Watters' prior recordings in his four CD set The Complete Good Time Jazz Recordings.
