They Say...
The best songs from Lulu's only Top 40 American LP ("To Sir with Love," "The Boat That I Row," "Best of Both Worlds," "Morning Dew") are on the Rhino compilation. If you like her a lot, though, it's not a bad pickup if you find a cheap used copy. This is Lulu at her poppiest, with production by Mickie Most and arrangements by Peter Knight (who worked on The Moody Blues' Days of Future Passed) and John Paul Jones (yes, the John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin). Much of the material is innocuously forgettable, and the cover of "Day Tripper" is poor, but the show-bizzy "You and I" (written by "To Sir with Love" author Mark London) has a great bouncy orchestral-pop arrangement and a sassy vocal. Also has a couple of 1967 British hits that didn't make it in the U.S. ("Love Loves to Love" and "Let's Pretend").
