  • They Say...

Imagine a shoegazer session produced by Phil Spector and the end result would undoubtedly sound exactly like Lush's "For Love." Modernizing the classic girl group sound for the dream pop era, the song is a dramatic departure from previous Lush singles, peeling back their wailing wall of sound to emphasize Miki Berenyi's girlish vocals and Emma Anderson's simple but lovely guitar. The cumulative effect is stunning -- though no less cinematic or otherworldly as past efforts, "For Love" is Lush's most direct and poignant moment, seamlessly fusing human drama with sonic grandeur. The three songs rounding out this EP are inconsequential by comparison, although the cover of Wire's "Outdoor Miner" captures Lush at their most incendiary.
