Green River

M. Ward

  • We Say...

One of the highlights of M Ward's stark sophomore effort The Transfiguration of Vincent was his somber re-working of David Bowie's "Let's Dance." While the surgery he performs on the Creedence classic "Green River" isn't quite as drastic, Ward still proves adept at whittling a song down to its essential elements. The song is charmingly shambling, reduced to its identifying riff — here delivered on a brittle acoustic guitar — and slowed down to a mosey. There aren't many pieces here, leaving plenty of space for Ward's creaking voice. Proceeds from the download of this song will be donated to Mercy Corps, an agency dedicated to bringing relief to troubled areas of the world for the last 26 years.
