They Say...
The second part of this October 14, 1977 show is preferable to the first, showing the band in better form and doing songs that they seem to be playing and singing with greater enthusiasm and sympathy -- and better songs. From "Running Hard" and "Mother Russia" to "Ashes Are Burning" (which turns into a 28-minute improvisation), they generally do credit to themselves and their repertory. The concert is rounded out with "Prologue" in a live performance from in Asbury Park, N.J., and a previously unissued studio cut, "You (Pts. 1 & 2)." The recording captures the texture and nuance of Mick Dunford's acoustic guitar on "Midas Man" and "Ashes Are Burning" in exquisite detail -- quite unexpected on a live album -- and generally this record is more successful than its companion disc.
