  • They Say...

Like its siblings, BMG Special Products' The Best of the Blues, Vol. 3 boasts a title that's entirely too presumptuous and silly, yet it remains an enjoyable listen, largely because of its impressive artist roster. Any album that contains selections from Jimmy Reed ("Ain't That Lovin' You Baby"), Lightnin' Hopkins ("Shining Moon"), Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee ("Down By the Riverside"), John Lee Hooker ("House Rent Boogie," "Whiskey and Wimmen'"), Memphis Slim ("Next Time You See Me," "Misery"), Howlin' Wolf ("Cause of it All") and Muddy Waters ("I Can't Call Her Sugar," "Mean Red Spider") can't be all bad, even if the artists' featured selections aren't necessarily their best or best known tracks. That's simply because the lineup is so impressive -- the quality of the artists guarantees a listenable album that will be worth its budget-line price.
