They Say...
Mel Tormé recorded some of the finest work of his career during his long period for the Concord label, one gem after another. This single CD from 1998 matches Tormé on four selections with George Shearing (the two always brought out the best in each other), Rob McConnell's Boss Brass, Cleo Laine ("I Thought About You"), the Marty Paich Dek-tette ("Sweet Georgia Brown"), the Frank Wess Orchestra (a beautiful version of "Stardust"), and an orchestra conducted by Randy Sandke. Fine music overall, but Tormé's many fans will prefer the complete sessions (particularly the ones with Shearing) instead.
“ The indie iTunes — Hardcore music fans are migrating to eMusic, the iTunes Music Store's cheaper, cooler cousin.”
