Legendary noise punks accomplish rare feat: a successful transition away from a tried-and-true formula

  • We Say...

Legendary Tokyo noise-punk outfit Melt-Banana has lately been touring under the moniker of "Melt-Banana Lite," a changeup which, despite the implied staff reduction, still includes all the members of the original Melt-Banana. The main thing that separates Live Ver. 0.0 from previous Melt-Banana outings is the exclusion of lead guitar. Instead, the band opts for the use of wild samples and synth freakouts. By introducing this new, genre-bending sound into a body of work that has always pushed the envelope with no-holds-barred, loud, fast, nasty punk, the members of Melt-Banana have accomplished a rare feat: a successful transition away from a tried-and-true formula. Indeed, Live Ver. 0.0 is a different breed of animal from other entries in the group's catalog, but fans of Melt Banana need not fear the word 'Lite': unlike the watered-down beers that bear the same appellation, Melt Banana Lite won't disappoint people looking for the truly full-bodied, frenzied noise rock which Melt Banana so amply provides.
