  • They Say...

The second proper album by Lee Norris' Metamatics project begins with a few mini-masterpieces ("Toy Toy," "Somekind"), tracks that weave vaguely funky rhythms around definitely atmospheric music verging on house, techno, electro, and IDM. As so many techno producers forget, futuristic rhythms and processing don't mean much scant months after release, and Norris makes sure the spirit of his productions is as persuasive as the programming. He moves on to a series of tracks with more of an ominous flavor ("OP6," "India Link"), then moves into straightahead IDM territory with several playful, programming-intensive productions ("Jakemond," "Fuzzy Dollar"). The excellent downbeat closer "Halshanger Cross" is a near-perfect ending to yet another great Metamatics production.
