  • They Say...

Minus Story's second release, the Heaven and Hell EP on Jagjaguwar, is less of a trippy affair this time around. The band focuses on the construction of the track more with less meandering, which works in the band's favor. On the waves of "Heaven and Hell," the lush "Time Wastes Itself" and the rollicking "Suffer By Yourself," vocals blend nicely with the layers of instruments and crisp percussion, creating a textured environment for pop that leans toward an Elephant 6-influenced area. The overall production of Heaven and Hell, which Minus Story recorded themselves, aids in creating their big, but not overbearing sound. An interesting cover of the Misfits' "Hybrid Moments" rounds out the EP, done in a lullaby singalong style that leaves you humming the tune hours later -- a sign that Minus Story's reworking of the punk classic paid off.
