K Records' veteran whimsical indie folkstress Mirah is back with The Old Days Feeling, the first album solely under her name since 2003's C'mon Miracle. While Miracle furthered Mirah's move toward some more expansive instrumentation and thicker production (courtesy of lo-fi folk icon Phil Elvrum), The Old Days Feeling takes a few subtle steps back, focusing on spare vocals-and-one-instrument ditties. Listening to this record feels like peering in from down the hall as Mirah sketches out songs on a lazy Sunday afternoon; nearly half of the tracks don't reach two minutes and (minus the bouncy calypso of "Slighted") the album is drizzled with a fine haze. Rather than feeling tossed-off, it sounds warm and familiar. Truly, an album to curl up with.
