  • They Say...

Over three years removed from her Neotropic debut, Riz Maslen returns to beat territory with another collection of sampledelic, slightly atmospheric, breakbeat techno. True to the title, there are a few psychedelic/garage flourishes, more reminiscent of the '60s than the '90s. The wheezing electro drive to "Under Violent Objects" underlines a series of paranoid strings while "Improved Industrial Dwellings" and "Vacetious Blooms" prove Maslen's way with beats and effects hasn't suffered from the absence. The album's not quite as compulsively listenable as 15 Levels of Magnification, but given the uncompromising excellence of her debut, that's hardly a drawback.
