  • They Say...

A crazy cover and crazy titles equal crazy guys, but the collision of live key chaos with breakbeat frivolousness in Paul Schneider and Stefan Jungmayer's eponymous debut is nothing if not enjoyable. Eclectic in every sense of the word, the pair splices genre and subgenre with the zest of an ethically free surgeon, the resultant album spinning a dizzying array of jazz and funk influences past a series of razor sharp beats. "Venus on the Forehead" is representative in its use of warm loops as a foundation for some menacingly effected buzzsaw keys, with dubbed bass touches reaching their inevitable crescendo within the torrential drum'n'bass of "Kronos" before easing themselves back from the edge with the organs, which lash out at the percussion of "Nice Round." While their second album honed their skills in a much tighter outing, Mum's debut encapsulates the spirit of Klein.
