  • They Say...

Never has a split EP like this ever been done before. On one side you have legendary death metal forefathers Napalm Death sharing a release with Midwest hardcore champs Coalesce, who were probably in grade school when NP's Scum was released. To say that there are blatant differences between each band is an understatement. Lyrically, Napalm continues its tradition of having more of a darker, political edge while sticking with the grinding, metallic speed that they defined back in the early '80s; that and their hair is as lengthy as ever. Coalesce, on the other hand have an angrier, more personal side to what they sing (or in this case scream) about with a sound of blistering hardcore; and unlike Napalm Death, their look is a lot more clean-cut. That's not to say that image is everything on In Tongues We Speak -- what matters is the sheer heaviness coming from both sides and lyrics that actually have some thought put into them.
