  • We Say...

Dan Yemin is actually Dr. Dan Yemin, a clinical child psychologist based in Philadelpihia, Pennsylvania. But to anyone well-versed in the history of the American underground, Yemin is the prime mover behind Lifetime, the pop-punk outfit whose influence is felt heavily in today's underground pop-punk scene, as well as Kid Dynamite, an all-amps-on-10 aggregate. Yemin founded Paint It Black in 2002 to scratch his hardcore itch (speed, velocity, catharsis) while exploring new ways of displaying the fury. Fury is something Yemin knows: PIB's debut album, CVA (short for "cardio-vascular aneurysm"), was written while he was recovering from a stroke. Released in 2008 and aided by the production team of underground hip-hop avatars Dalek, New Lexicon is positively murderous, welding Yemin's lyrical and sonic vitriol to hip-hop's bass worship The resultant disc alienated more than a few scene purists, but ignited the interest of noise-rockers, post-metal types and alt-rockers who like to use the word "angular" to describe their favorite guitar sound.
