  • We Say...

Debussy and Ravel, like their French Impressionist painter contemporaries, were fascinated by everything from atmospheric elements like water and fog to the exotic colors and sounds of the non-European world, such as America's burgeoning jazz scene. Despite the slightest of technical bumps in the Debussy, violinist Kang offers a solid introduction to these French violin sonatas. He even gets the ideal rhythmic feel for the second movement of the Ravel sonata, a highlight track in which Ravel makes reference to blues singing and strummed guitar.
