  • They Say...

Under the Unminding Skies is precisely what it appears to be: a melancholy, reflective and sometimes twangy indie singer/songwriter album. Fortunately, Patrick Park has good command of songcraft and a compelling singing voice. His song lyrics are the bomb (literally: one song is titled "Love Is a Bomb" while another mentions a "cherry bomb") and the two cover versions are split between one that isn't commonly known (Colin Blunstone's "Caroline Goodbye") and a standard that's been recorded by dozens of people ("Will the Circle Be Unbroken"). Park does all the singing and plays all the instruments himself except for Brandon Jay's drums on "Love Is a Bomb" and "Untitled" and Anna Waronker's backing vocals on "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." He seems like a promising talent if this recording is any indication.
