They Say...
Paul Brady's second solo album was originally released in 1983; it was remastered in 1999, and reissued in the U.S. by Compass Records in 2001. The songs have aged surprisingly well for an album of this vintage. While the drum sound and synth parts scream 1980s, Brady's songcraft is pretty well timeless. He could have given us a few more hooks to hang onto, but there's no denying the gently rolling melodic pleasure of "Let It Happen" and "Take Me Awaym" and the muscular beats don't hurt, either. Other artists have felt the same way about his songs -- tracks from this album were later covered by Tina Turner and Bonnie Raitt. The album's only real misstep is "Interlude," an utterly wasted two and a half minutes near the end of the program that undercuts the momentum of an album that is, overall, a solid winner.
