  • They Say...

George Duke's volume in the Columbia This Is Jazz series focuses on two of his specialties: exploratory keyboard fusion and Brazilian jazz. "Diamonds," "Positive Energy" and "Hot Fire" are the best of the former, while "Cravo e Canela" and "Brazilian Sugar" highlight the latter. The result is a pleasant collection in which the styles often collide and play off each other, though the final track, "Love Reborn" (from the 1976 Solo Keyboard Album), is a beautiful song with just Duke on acoustic piano.
