  • They Say...

This 1960 recording is one of about ten children's music albums Seeger issued on Folkways, and offers no particular surprises or themes. It's just Seeger on guitar and banjo, as usual, delivering standards like "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain," "Skip to My Lou," "I've Been Workin' on the Railroad," and "Little Sally Walker" with enthusiasm and an eye for kiddie humor. "Captain Jinks," with its implorations to move in certain ways "for that's the style in the army," sounds a little odd coming from someone who worked so hard for peace in the 20th century, unless it was intended ironically. Probably that's reading too much into what is an innocent record, after all, emphasizing songs that are easy to sing along with.
