  • They Say...

This was the recording that virtually reinvented two superior careers. Vocalist Tito Rojas was in virtual obscurity for three years until the arrival of this opportunity. The Puerto Rican Power, under the leadership of trumpet player Luisito Ayala, became one of the most traveled and continuously popular salsa orchestras outside the island. The band's fifth recording strikes gold, after many years backing up the Fania vocalists in Puerto Rico. In the dawn of romantic salsa, Tito's raw raspy, vocalizing was highly effective when contrasting with love-oriented lyrics. Thanks to arrangers Carlos "Cuto" Soto and Ernesto "Tito" Rivera, the band's powerful soared unknown heights. This is still the Orchestra's best album, by far, featuring the standouts "Amor de Mentira," "Noche de Boda," "Quiéreme Tal Como Soy," "Tres Mujeres," and "No Estoy." Watch for Paquito Guzmán, Harry Fraticelli, and Ito Rivera (Jerry's brother and PRP vocalist) on background vocals. Trivia: An uncredited Mario Ortiz on trumpet solo and trombone player Sammy Torres (Tito Rojas' future musical director) participate in this in this landmark career.
