  • We Say...

Hardcore is a genre that has a tendency to wear bands out. The rolling folk-rock that makes up Mount Hope was created by Pygmy Lush, featuring members of former hardcore heavyweights as Pg. 99 and City of Caterpiller. It's a long, long jump, but they pull it off admirably. The album is stately and hushed — songs like "God Condition" and "Dead Don't Pass" are gentle submerged in a fine layer of reverb and sound like they're gracefully floating. Immediate highlight is album opener "Asphalt," a dark, Neil Young-y dirge that's simultaneously spooky and sparkling.
